Ante Meridiem, the daytime choir, presents its annual Winter Concert, featuring Vivaldi’s celebrated Gloria in D Major, written in about 1716 in Venice during the composer’s employment as choirmaster at the Ospedale della Pietà, a great Venetian charitable institution and residence for orphaned girls. Its exciting quicker movements, beautiful solo writing, evocative duets for voices and instruments, and intense harmonic moments make the Gloria a delight for the listener, and one of the most performed choral-orchestral works in the classical canon.

It is a “first” for Ante Meridiem to perform a multi-movement choral/orchestral work, and we look forward to welcoming our audience to experience this wonderful music! The Vivaldi will feature the accompaniment of professional musicians, and spotlight our own section leaders in the performance: Jennifer O’Donnell, alto; Janet Smith, soprano; Nathan Bootsma, tenor; and Peter Malcolm, bass.

The program will run approximately eighty minutes with a short intermission.
